Adult Voice Lessons
We offer lessons for all ages and experience levels. You may find our studio members gigging around Orlando, singing in their church choir, performing in community theater, singing in operas, or even singing to the radio in their car with gorgeous technique! We champion all of our students whether they have professional or purely personal singing goals. Whether your lesson is intensive-career training or your "me time" to focus on your hobby and passion, we give the same level of focus and care to developing your voice and enriching your love for music! Adult lessons are a combination of vocal exercise work where we develop your technique, and repertoire work where we coach you through your music and put your technique to practice.
Children's Voice Lessons
Mackey Voice studio accepts children age 5-18 for age appropriate vocal instruction!
Voice lessons to introduce your child to music making in a fun and approachable way and set the foundations for lifelong musicianship!
Young vocal anatomy is delicate and lifelong unhealthy vocal habits can be set in childhood, which is why we takes great care with adolescent voices. There are signific differences between a child's larynx, a teen's larynx, and an adult larynx. We take this into serious consideration when choosing our teaching methods and goals for students of different ages.
For ages 5-11, lessons are based around nurturing love and joy for singing, introduction to music reading, developing confidence on stage, and age appropriate foundations of healthy singing. Lessons are fun, game-based, and engaging for their young focus levels. They give the extroverted child an outlet to shine and the introverted child an opportunity to come out of their shell and gain confidence in front of a crowd.
For Ages 13-18 we begin to introduce students to vocal technique in a way that is much more similar to adult voice lessons. Lessons will be split between vocal exercises and the student's repertoire. Singing in other languages and diction studies also begin for this age range as well as more in depth musicianship skills. These students may be taking lessons for the joy of singing, but may also be preparing for auditions for school/community theater, art's magnet schools, or collegiate music schools.

FAQ's
-
Are there prerequisites for taking voice lessons?
-
The only prerequisite is a love for singing! We accept students at all levels of experience with vocal study. There is a false narrative in our society that some people are gifted with vocal talent and the rest of us should not sing. What my two collegiate degrees in voice have taught me is that EVERYONE can learn to sing and ANYONE who loves to sing SHOULD! My education and background prepares me to teach any student from a complete beginner (adult or child) to a trained professional!

-
Do you teach ____ genre?
-
Yes! My specialty is teaching classically trained vocal technique that can support your singing in whichever genre you love to sing in. My students will work on the genre of their choice while learning the fundamentals of classical vocal technique that can increase your vocal strength and longevity in all genres. This also means that my students will always have 1 classical song to work on in addition to music from their genre, but they are never pushed to perform their classical piece in public.

Is my child too young for voice lessons?
-
We teach lessons for ages 5 and up! You may have heard that students should not be studying voice before their voice change. This idea is is rooted in the fact that the voice takes many years to develop and adolescent voice training requires education that not all voice teachers have. I have studied adolescent voice development and know how to teach young voices healthily and safely. I believe that if a child loves to sing, that passion should be encouraged through age-appropriate instruction. Let's face it, if your child is a little songbird, they are going to sing all the time whether they are in lessons or not, so its good to have a well-trained teacher there to make sure they develop healthy singing habits. The key is to not teach children to sing like adults and unhealthily push their young voices before their voice change. This is why my teaching methods for each child student are based on the age and development of their voice. If we compare it to ballet lessons, a five-year old shouldn't be taught to dance on pointe, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't take a beginner ballet class.

-
Do I need to send video of my singing before I take a lesson?
-
No! New students will schedule a "Trial Lesson". This lesson will be at a discounted rate, and allows you to get to know me as a teacher and for me to hear you as a singer. We will discuss your goals and I will assess what you need in your vocal technique. This is a "no pressure" opportunity to decide if The Mackey Voice Studio is right for you.
